Insurance against cancellation of a campervan or caravan trip

When planning a dream trip, we rarely think about the fact that something could go wrong. However, life can be unpredictable – sudden illness, professional problems or other unexpected situations can derail trip plans. In such cases, travel cancellation insurance proves invaluable financial protection. Trip cancellation insurance for a campervan or caravan allows you not only to protect your finances, but also to gain peace of mind that you will be adequately supported in the event of an emergency. And you’ll be able to use the refunded money for your next trip, which is sure to happen by now!

What is trip cancellation insurance?

Trip cancellation insurance is a policy that protects against financial losses if a trip has to be canceled or interrupted for reasons beyond the insured’s control. It allows you to recover costs incurred for airline tickets, vehicle rentals (including an RV or caravan), lodging reservations or fees for planned attractions.

What is trip cancellation insurance coverage?

Trip cancellation insurance covers financial losses if the trip does not happen or has to be interrupted. Coverage varies depending on the insurer and the quote selected, and for those planning a campervan or caravan trip, insurance may cover:

  • Cancellation costs for renting an RV or trailer (based on the rental agreement)
  • Reimbursement of fees for pre-booked campsites (based on the accommodation reservation agreement)

When is trip cancellation insurance available?

In the case of TU Warta insurance, the scope of causes of trip interruption or cancellation is broad and includes events that may affect the cancellation of a planned trip related to:

  • accident or sudden illness (including those resulting from an exacerbation of a chronic disease) or death of the insured, a fellow traveler or a loved one,
  • damage to property resulting from, among other things, random events or burglary, as well as damage to a vehicle as a result of an accident,
  • losing or starting work,
  • Loss of documents, subpoena, natural disaster.
  • The detailed description and scope of the causes are contained in the T&Cs – it is worth reading the contract carefully, especially the scope and exclusions of the insurer’s liability.

How much does trip cancellation insurance cost?

Typically, the amount is about 3.5%-5% of the travel expenses incurred. The sum insured, on the other hand, which is the upper limit of liability, is indicated in the insurance contract. It applies to all insured persons in total and is equal to the price specified in the travel contract – however, it cannot exceed the maximum sum insured, i.e. in the example of TU Warta – PLN 40,000 per insured person.

That is, for example, in the case of a travel booking of PLN 10,000, cancellation insurance will amount to about PLN 350 – 500. This is a small cost compared to the potential losses that could result from having to cancel the trip.

Damage report – what documents are needed?

If it will be necessary to cancel or interrupt your trip for the reasons mentioned above, the insurer will need certain documents from you, in particular, confirming the occurrence of the event that is the reason for the cancellation or interruption of the trip such as:

  • medical records, E-exemption
  • copy of death certificate
  • A certificate from the police confirming the damage to the property
  • subpoena.

A travel contract will also be required for compensation, along with evidence of costs incurred. It is worth remembering that insurance allows you to recover of documented expenses, which is why it is safer to use professional rental companies such as KoKo Kamper, which provide a legitimate rental contract and the appropriate proof of payment and other documents that the insurer may require. In the case of TU Warta, a rental agreement for a passenger car (up to 3.5 tons gross vehicle weight, carrying up to 9 people including the driver), camper or caravan is also considered a travel contract. So, when you rent a motorhome from KoKo Kamper, you are assured that the insurer will accept the contract with our rental company as a relevant document.

Deadline for concluding an insurance contract – check if you have time!

Booking an RV trip? It’s best to buy the right insurance right away. It may no longer be possible to purchase a policy shortly before your trip begins.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to conclude an insurance contract if the day of purchase of the trip is also the day of its start. That’s why it’s a good idea to book your RV well in advance!

Trip cancellation insurance for a campervan or caravan is a practical solution for those wishing to avoid the financial risks and unnecessary stress of a sudden trip cancellation. By choosing a policy that covers all the relevant aspects, you will gain peace of mind and the assurance that you can count on the support of your insurer in case of need.

Don’t let random situations spoil your dream trip!
